If it's anything like the original Xenoblade, it'll be amazing. It's a fusion of Japanese and Western RPG design, and feels fresher than most JRPGs I've been playing since.
But yeah, 'Doll' seems kinda... I dunno, it'll grow on me, but it doesn't feel like something the military would call a powerful battle mech!
Very true. It's a distinctive style that makes Atlus' games stand out from the pack.
Always good to see small-team early access games do well. Lots of failures but the business model does work!
Ha, you're not wrong!
I can't wait to see how this stacks up with Xenoblade Chronicles X. P5 will have much stronger stories and characters, natch.
I'll be playing both... I mean, sorry, Protagonist! I'll be playing P5. Obviously.
They really do, don't they? Anzu Takamaki especially, it's uncanny! Guess Atlus think that if it ain't broke, don't fix the art direction.
Fine by me. Looks gorgeous.
Yeah, no kidding. It takes a little while to absorb the initial build costs, but it really doesn't take long to start making serious savings, especially when some of the very best PC games don't actually require you to pack the absolute top-of-the-line GPUs (even if it's satisfying!). Hell, Dungeon Of The Endless, Endless Legend, The Last Federation and Risk of Rain have given me dozens of hours of entertainment and would run on a toaster.
Get a cheap Wii U and a copy of the original!
"Now how about a campaign mode demo?"
It's one of the better AAA betas over the last few years. Many companies just pretend to launch a "beta" when it's just a marketing ploy/glorified demo, and though it's kinda the case here, there's enough time to identify and polish the netcode etc. Still wish the tickrate was faster though!
"Just need to temper expectations."
Think that's the key really, fully agreed. Actually said much the same thing above, so long as you're not expecting too much it's great value and you can be surprised rather than disappointed.
It's hardly brilliant though. Graphics are utterly gorgeous and the multiplayer can be fun, but the whole thing is very much your bog-standard launch title.
Better to temper expectations and be pleasantly surprised than hyped and disappointed IMO.
Yeah, a cops & robbers BF4 DLC would do me nicely. Hotwire and Heist mode, a few maps and progression, £20 all in.
I'd pay another fiver to skip all of the campaign before and after that point.
Heh, jokes. Maybe not the rappel bit. I liked the rappel bit.
So a gamer writing about their personal experiences in an opinion piece is... social justice?
Come on. Let's try to speak out the bigger problems ruining our hobby (broken games, crazy RRP, deceptive marketing, pre-order cons) before worrying about stuff like that.
Brill. Sounds about right TBH, Zeboyd always trims out grind and streamlines smartly, while making combat a satisfying puzzle rather than stodge.
I wish that Robert Boyd had been able to collaborate on Citizens Of Earth. Feel like Eden just lacked the experience and confidence to cut back on the amount of busywork and bumf.
I agree completely as things stand, but I think by the end of this generation the Wii U will be a perfect 2nd console/backup console for a gaming PC. PS4/Xbox One for multiplats and the occasional exclusives, Wii U for the Ninty goodness. Best of both worlds, and again, it's more about the price too.
Final Fantazy.
Fair enough - you've gotta choose the console that's right for you, or more accurately the games that are right for you!
Honestly, I'm done with Resistance. Enjoyed the first, hated the second, surprisingly dug on the third. But I feel like it's run its course now - time for another PS4 exclusive shooter franchise now, surely?
Yeah, it's always great to see console manufacturers looking to integrate useful quality of life improvements that gel with the services we already use, not trying to impose new services or subscriptions on us!
I actually love JRPGs and play new/import releases constantly... but I agree. Too many JRPG studios today have the talent, but settle for rehashing the same basic structure while focusing on fanservice rather than unique exciting new characters and features. Not all studios, just too many.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very partial to a Compile Heart cheesecake-fest or NISJ romp, but the genre needs to push boundaries instead of falling back on tried-and-tested material.
